local government, legal/litigation, power
utility/management, interactive media, dotcom and computer
peripherals/appliances.
In South Africa, during the mid-to-late 1970's, George
trained with Atlas Aircraft Corporation and qualified, with
distinction, on military aircraft instrumentation and flight
control systems. During the early 1980's, he was
licensed by the South African Department of Civil Aviation
(DCA) on civil aviation flight control systems. In
addition, George acquired a private pilot's license, with
night-flight, advanced navigation and aerobatics ratings –
all achieved through the South African Air force, civilian
flight wing.
From the "super-clean" (micron-filtered) aviation
environment, he joined the De Beers Diamond Research
Laboratories (in the early-to-mid 1980's) where he used his
knowledge of control systems and electronics to design and
develop industrial process control systems, including the
design and development of embedded firmware - for use in
"not-so-clean" mining environments.
During the mid-1980's, George adapted his skills, gained on
process control systems, to automate business processes
using commercial-based IT/IS systems to increase process
efficiencies wherever possible. The result, to-date,
has been the successful management, implementation and
deployment of many commercial IT/IS systems.
