term contained in the above mission statement is 'evolving'.
That is, the most effective and sustained migration to a mature
SOA is not
the result of a 'big bang' approach, but is rather based on the
following activities:
- Establishing the enterprise's current level of SOA maturity based on the
SOA Maturity Model.
- Identification of a high-level enterprise SOA/SOI strategy based on the
SOA maturity
and the current most significant benefits that the enterprise
expects to derive from embracing SOA/SOI (these expectations will evolve as
the SOA matures). i.e. Some enterprises may determine that the
greatest initial benefit may be derived from the interaction of one or more
systems/applications at the integration (or data) level, while other
enterprises may be at a higher level of SOA maturity and, therefore,
determine that there is a greater value proposition from the
orchestration/choreography of business services/processes used by various
departments, lines of business and/or business partners, etc.
- Establishing an SOA governance/management plan to support the evolving
(and maturing) SOA.
